What you need to know before choosing a credit card; we've tried to summarize it in four points. What's the best credit card? A short and concise question, but one we've asked ourselves many times. Zero interest, no commissions, accepted everywhere, not linked to a bank account… We're bombarded with these messages, but we know full well that each one can hide a trap. So what should we watch out for when faced with this choice? We've tried to sort through the various offers to find the one with the most advantageous conditions. It's natural to choose credit cards with no annual fee. However, be careful to also consider any commissions you may have to pay when withdrawing money in Italy or abroad. And don't underestimate the annual fee for subsequent years. Many offers start with no annual fee, but then require a fixed payment starting from the second year.
Travel abroad
Many credit cards offer additional services for travelers. A classic is airline ticket insurance in case you miss your flight. But there may also be other options such as car rental or medical insurance. Carefully evaluate the cost of these services before using them, not to mention the fees for international withdrawals, which we mentioned in the previous section. What if I need to block my card?
Card blocking costs
All credit cards include a toll-free number to block the card in case of theft, loss, or cloning. Remember that for your protection, the law stipulates that if there were unauthorized withdrawals before the card was blocked, you can be charged a maximum total amount of €150. Issuing a new card does, however, incur a fee; the fee for this service should remain around €25.
Interest on debt
The great advantage of a credit card is undoubtedly the ability to purchase and pay monthly. Each time I use the card, I'm given a sort of loan, on which interest may be applied. It's always a good idea to check whether significant interest rates are applied to the repayment of these amounts. Below, we've provided some tips on the most convenient credit cards. Account terms and conditions change, and it's important to always use constantly updated comparison sources.
